See the sunlight is very essential to our well being. It strengthens our bones, triggers our metabolism gives our skin a healthy glow, besides so many more health benefits. While I was getting good sunlight back then I was not very consistent about the sunscreen. Though I was using one I am not sure that was the perfect one for Bombay’s humid climate.
This has led to my skin showing the reaction now, when actually I don’t even expose my skin too much sunlight. So I was looking for something that would nourish my skin from within. I knew Vitamin E was good for skin especially in protecting the skin from the harshness of the sun.
One way to get Vitamin E oil is using Almond Oil. Unfortunately I couldn’t find it. So I picked up the synthetically made one. The ingredients seem quite standard. This one is called Mannequin Vitamin E oil. It is very dense, which is how it should be. It has scent which I had hoped it wouldn’t since most synthetically produced scents are not good for the skin but I guess since I use so many products with scents in them, my moisturisers, deos, I would try it anyway. I massaged about a drop of it and let it be for 15 minutes or so. My skin feels great and very moisturised. I have yet another set of capsules which I will try and compare with this one. But on its own this is good enough.
Once I am impressed by a product I usually become a loyal fan. It is hard for me to experiment mainly because I have a sensitive skin so there are a few products that manage to break this protective shield.
The product that managed to impress me is the old and humble Palmer’s Shea Butter Body Lotion. Although I have thought of picking up this body lotion I somehow never did. But it was the “shea butter” keyword that tempted me to try it. Shea butter is Africa’s secret for a gorgeous glowing skin. These are nuts that are traditionally ground to buttery texture.
This butter seems to work for me. After having used it for some time I find that I like the soft, moisturised sheen it leaves on my skin. The softness lasts for hours after applying it. I would highly recommend this product.
May be it is just me but I had always undermined the value of a toner in my skin care regime. While religious exfoliate and moisturise my skin I didn’t exactly understand how the toner was any different than mere moistursing. May be the fault lied in the toners I had been using.
Toners really are the only way to complete your skin care routine. Before I tell you how I discovered it’s value, you may check the first two essential steps of skin care.
If you are already into exfoliating and moisturising, here is the third essential skin care ritual, toning.
Toner: While toning is recommended by any beauty expert, most of us do not value it as much. So the most we get is when we get the regular facial. But what a toner does is closes the open pores and tightens the skin. The exfoliation and moisturising leaves our pores open but if it is left open it will absorb the toxins at a faster rate and hence it is necessary that the pores are closed.
So this is my experience with the Oriflame Swedish Spa Sea Algae Mineral Face Mist. While it is called mist, this is essentially a toner.
Couple of hours after finishing off with my moisturiser, I thought I ought to try this. Since I was trying it out on a Sunday evening I didn’t need to worry about going out at least for twelve hours. And so, I applied this liquid, it’s really water and let it sit on my face and neck for an hour when it was completely dry.
Then I washed it off with just plain water. I didn’t use any face wash as I had just completed my exfoliation, moisturise routine a couple of hours ago. So then I tapped it dry and I could already see the polished look on my skin. And since it had been a while since I had tried this home spa care I could feel the tightening and softness.
So I have finished off the tube of my most favourite moisturiser and need to shower some love on it. But before that…
Elizabeth Arden is the first luxury brand that I tried. A bit of interesting history? Much before beauty salons became a common thing for most women, only women from the richest homes had their own parlours where they could spend some time pampering themselves. So for the first time, during the World War 2, Elizabeth Arden became the first beauty parlour in the world where in any woman could walk in and spend some time being pampered by others. So it’s legacy in pampering women goes way back…
So when I was buying this body lotion I was already aware that I was digging into something wonderful. I tried it on my face and instantly felt the difference. My skin stayed silky soft for the longest time. And it even passes my discontinue-to-use test, where in my skin doesn’t go to a tired, sad state if I don’t use it for a couple of days.
And special mention must be made of its fragrance, I can promise you even the most absent minded beau will take notice! 😉 And it will be your signature perfume.
As I have said many times before, Boots is one of my favourite brands in skin care. But I haven’t spoken about a brand i discovered about a year ago. But as winter is at the horizon this is the best time to introduce it.
My skin is minimal care type year around however it turns into a biscuit texture as soon as there is a nip in the air. So I was looking for something natural and deep moisturising. But I was in for a surprise when I discovered pure Shea body butter in the Boots range.
As you might already know that Shea butter is known as one the most moisturising natural ingredients available to us. This is one of Africa’s best kept secret since Africans have been extracting the fruit and using it for skin care since ages. Of course not many of us buy this extracted goodness in its crude natural form, we can buy it through a few brands that make it available.
So I tried this and it is definitely up there on the top in my most preferred skin care product. I used it during the winter on my dry skin, and my skin shed like that of a snake! Lol!
But really it is like having a new skin that looks all moisturised and soft. The one thing I wanted is for the body butter to not have a fragrance at all but guessing that it is Shea butter which is bitter in taste as well as smell. However the fragrance might cloak the bitter smell but it still tastes bitter so don’t use it as a lip balm but you can use it for skin care as much as you want.
Hello all! So sorry I was away for a while! Hope you are all well! 🙂
So I like the concept of night creams. Actually I even the use moisturising creams only at night. I am all for the wash, moisturise and sleep on a silk pillow routine because that is the most I can do for my skin through the week.
So when I received Carita Diamant De Beaute in my Glambox I was curious. It is a night cream for skin regeneration that contains diamond composition. Have you ever wondered whether they really add diamond or gold to these creams? I was very curious about this so I asked my sister-in-law who is a pharmacist. According to her, it is the exact chemical composition that is mixed in liquid form. So there is no grated diamond in this!!!
So this formula is what is popularly known as the Microdermabrasion process. Instead of doing it at a dermalogist’s you do it at home with slightly less concentrated chemicals. Microdermaabrasion basically takes off the dead skin cells out of your skin, that is the reason why you get that baby skin effect.
So Carita Diamant De Beaute does all this. At present I have nothing to compare this with but if I do I will certainly post my results about it here. (Bioderma’s Matricium is a skin regeneration serum but not a microdermaabrasion process.)
Anyway I think skin regeneration creams should not be used before 50 or at least 40, because at this point your skin is absolutely manageable with basic moisturising and a good diet.
Pricing: It is a luxury brand, and at a slightly higher scale in pricing.
So let’s do this old school ad style –
Has your face lost its radiance?
Is your smog-weary skin asking for help?
Look no further, for we have the answer to all your questions…
No but seriously…
I was very surprised to receive this product called Matricium in my March Glambox. It was so differently packaged than a skin care product. Then I noticed that it was by Bioderma so I was assured I would be discovering something great.
And I instantly liked the fact that it came in a set of five allowing me to really observe how it works over the time.
It says on the box that it is for tissue regeneration. Hmm my skin would like that, i think!
So Bioderma’s product Matricium is for the tired skin. What you do is take one of the no-nonsense capsule and pop it out, pour the liquid and apply it.
My skin absorbed it like the desert would absorb water. I let it be through the night and my skin had an instant glow and freshness.
I have used it twice in two week’s time and it seems to keep the glowy, soft effect through the week.
So if the city’s bad air is showing on your skin, I would recommend this as a Sunday – night ritual.
