What you need to know about Birchbox, Glambox or other beauty boxes

So after I heard about the Birchbox, I was curious whether there was something similar to that here in the Middle East. Since UAE is one of the top markets for fashion and cosmetics, there had to be, right?

So yes there is! It is the Glambox ME !

Have you been wondering about investing in one, or any other beauty box in your city? Read up!!!

So here is all you need to know about it!!! If you are not familiar with the concept, it is a service that will send you a mix of high end or drug store cosmetics for a discounted price. You can go for monthly, quarterly to a full year subscription.

The box usually has 4-6 products. Once you receive it, you try out the products and fill up a survey form provided by them, usually online, and collect points that will be added to your account. That is it!!!

About the points:
Usually one point is one dirham, or dollar or euro, depending where you are geographically. You can redeem the points for discount on other beauty products on their site. You can gain points by recommending your friends or family.

It is a win-win for both the manufacturers and the consumers. Since the manufacturers are selling the product and getting a direct response from the market. And the consumers are getting the products for a much discounted price.

If you are thinking why the manufacturers are giving away products at a discounted price, well here is the deal…There is usually a big gap between the cost of production and the price that the consumer will buy it in. The reason for the difference is the product’s journey from the factory to the shelves of a store. The logistics and distribution involve a lot of cost. And so does the astronomical cost of advertising it to the masses. Add to it the store’s profit margin. And voila! Your beauty product!

But thanks to experimental models in the market, the manufacturers have realised that they would be much wiser to take the product straight to the consumers, and let you, the consumer, do the advertising via word of mouth. Thanks to the success of social media, it has worked and how!!!

So what’s the catch here:
Pros-
Well not much. I have loved the products I have received. And about the fact that they send sample size. Well not always, some of the products are full sized. And about the sample size, I actually prefer a sample size, when I am trying out a new product because I don’t want to be stuck with a product that does not work well on my skin.

Cons –

Well, why don’t we call them suggestions, because each product seems to have its own protocol about the quantity they will provide. But even if a brand is giving out a sample, the quantity should be at least enough to last 2 uses. Only then can the product be truly reviewed. I don’t know about others, but I have this little test that I do when I am trying something new; I always check how my skin feels after I have washed off the product, how does it feel if I discontinue it for a while. Does my skin feel dry, itchy, irritated? That is the true test. Only when a product passes this test will I continue to use it or recommend it to others.

That’s about it now. I am sure I will update this later.

So do I recommend it? Yes, absolutely!

But if they include the suggestions that would be great too.
